  I went to Liberty tax to get my taxes filed. Before I handed my paperwork over to start the process I asked "How much is this going to cost?" The tax rep then replied "Between $250 and $300" Yes that is high. Now normally I'll file myself because I have a fairly simple form but this year I had a few changes and questions and just wasn't comfortable doing it this year. So I agreed to the price of around $250 to $300. We went over everything discussed child care the credits and I got all of my questions and felt pretty good about the process. They showed me what I was getting back which was pretty close to the amount I was coming up with. I left the office still under the impression that the charge was at most $300. I was told I could pick up my paperwork the next day and that they would call me when finished after waiting a week I called them. The person who answered said it wasn’t quite finished but she would get it done if I came by in about an hour. I went to pick it up got out to my car decided to take a look at the paperwork. Are you kidding me I see a charge of $491 for tax preparations yes I was quite surprised. No I didn’t just except this as correct information. I got out of my car and walked back into Liberty Tax 1st Ave and questioned it. The Person I spoke with said that he was surprised I wasn’t told how much it would be before the forms were completed and that the manager had just left he requested that I wait till next day for a call from her and she would discuss it with me, I agreed. So I got a call today I was basically told that they weren’t going to do anything and that she would put a note for me to get a discount next year (as if I’m coming back next year!) She went on to avoid the actual issue and just kept telling me that they go through lots of training to insure they are able to file the forms correctly and get us the most back which is all fine and well but not the issue. The issue is I was charged almost $500 without being made aware of the cost. I’m furious. I strongly suggest that you never use Liberty Tax to file your taxes as they will screw you unapologetically and when caught do nothing to amend the situation. This is exactly the kind of practice that makes people not want to use tax preparers and gives the profession a bad name. If they would’ve at least tried to fix the issue I wouldn’t be filing a complaint.
